1976-78 – trained as a carpenter and joiner
1979-84 - studied architecture at the Technical University of Berlin, diploma thesis under Prof. Otto Steidle
1984-87 - worked in various architectural offices in Berlin
from 1987 - joint practice with Petra Kahlfeldt in Berlin
1988-92 - head of the Berlin office of Josef Paul Kleihues
1988 - lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences for Engineering, Economics and Design, Bernburg Anhalt
1999-2001 - coordination of the construction renovation of Festspielhaus Hellerau, Dresden
1999-2005 - professor of design, construction, and building technology at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern and professor of fundamentals and theory of building structures at the Technical University of Dortmund.
2004 - obtained a doctorate at the Technical University of Delft
2010-15 - member of the advisory board for the urban design project in Regensburg
