Biography
Richard Gilbert Scott was a British architect, the son of Giles Gilbert Scott and the great-grandson of the significant Gothic Revival architect George Gilbert Scott. He received his architectural education at the Bartlett School of Architecture and Regent Street Polytechnic School of Architecture in London.
He worked for the family firm and retired in 1999. He was the author of three churches that are now listed as heritage sites. He was also responsible for the west wing of the Guildhall in London (1974) and the Guildhall Art Gallery in 1999. Both buildings contrast with the Gothic architecture of the Guildhall (the restoration of which after World War II was overseen by his father), with the west wing aligning itself with modernism and the art gallery with postmodernism.
