Rudolf Weißer was an East German architect active in Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz), where he significantly contributed to the post-war reconstruction of the city center. In his early works (the Annenschule from 1952 and the current headquarters of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce from 1958), traditional influences can still be felt. Later works (the Rosenhof high-rise building and the reconstruction of the theater) reflect modernist ideas, which were fully expressed in his most important realization, the city hall with a hotel and conference center built between 1968 and 1974.
