Biography
Samuli Miettinen is a founding partner of the architectural studio JKMM. Throughout his career, he has primarily worked as the chief designer of public buildings. Among the most significant completed works are the wooden church of Viikki in Helsinki (2005), the extension of the University of Joensuu Aurora II (2006), the children's center in Saunalahti in Espoo (2011), the travel center in Lahti (2016), the residential block Bysa & Sandis in Helsinki (2017), and the hybrid stadium project Tammela (2023). From 2006 to 2009, he was the chairman of the Association of Finnish Architecture Offices ATL, and from 2007 to 2009, a board member of the Finnish Association of Architects SAFA. Miettinen served as the vice president of the Finnish Museum of Architecture from 2013 to 2018. In 2007, Miettinen was awarded the State Prize for Architecture. Throughout his career, together with his partners from JKMM Architects, he has participated in over 100 architectural competitions, winning nearly 50 first prizes.
