"I pity anyone who lives only within the strict boundaries of reality and has lost the sense of the uplifting power of thought."

Unlike the Liberec architectural group Sial, which had to bring at least some of its projects to realization for its bare existence, the architectural works of the Slovak group VAL have always remained at the conceptual level. However, they were often elaborated down to the smallest technical detail, as evidenced by Heliopolis, a project for an Olympic city in the High Tatras, or Akustikon, a kinetic concert hall.
Alex Mlynárčik and his colleagues Viera Mecková and Ľudovít Kupkovič created a separate category for their utopian projects called prospective architecture, which carves out its own piece from conceptual art. The visions that could hardly expect realization in the reality of Czechoslovak normalization aimed more at finding a balance between society, culture, and nature – they sought "paths and aspects of tomorrow" [Voies et Aspectes du Lendemain], which gave rise to the name of this creative author trio VAL.
