BiographyYasmeen Lari is the first Pakistani architect who graduated in 1963 from Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom and opened her own architectural practice in Pakistan in 1964. She spent a large part of her career designing major brutalist buildings for significant firms. In 2000, she retired and focused on humanitarian work. She founded a movement for carbon-neutral construction for climate refugees and landless people. She is the co-founder and head of the Heritage Foundation of Pakistan. In 2016, she received the Fukuoka Prize (previously the Yokatopia Foundation) in the field of culture and arts. In 2020, she was awarded the Jane Drew Prize by the London monthly magazine Architects' Journal. In 2023, she received the RIBA Gold Medal (Royal Institute of British Architects).
