1905 - Berthold Konrad Hermann Albert Speer was born in Mannheim as the second of three sons to the family of architect Albert Friedrich Speer (his grandfather was also an architect)
1923 - his original goal was to study mathematics, but at his father's behest, he began studying architecture at the University of Karlsruhe
1924 - he went to study at the Technical University in Munich
1925 - he continued his studies under Hans Poelzig and Heinrich Tessenow at the Technical University in Berlin
1927-32 - after obtaining his diploma, he stayed at the university as an assistant
1932 - he joined the Nazi Party NSDAP, where he had a rapid political career
1934 - after the death of Paul Troost, he became the chief architect of the Third Reich
1942 - after the tragic death of Fritz Todt, he became the Minister of Armaments
1945 - however, in March, he defied Hitler's orders to destroy German industrial facilities, bridges, railways, and many other structures before the enemy
After the end of World War II, he was captured, indicted, and tried at the Nuremberg Trials by the International Military Tribunal, sentenced to 20 years in prison, which he spent in Spandau prison
1981 - he died in London on September 1 from a brain hemorrhage
