The prominent German architect Albert Speer Jr. has died.

Frankfurt - At the age of 83, renowned German architect Albert Speer Jr. passed away on Friday in Frankfurt am Main, who advocated for energy-efficient and environmentally friendly construction. As noted by the DPA agency, Speer made every effort in public and in the media to ensure that he was not associated with his namesake father, the court architect of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.

Albert Speer Jr. founded his architectural office in 1964. At that time, he was one of the few builders who collaborated with sociologists when planning urban construction. The Frankfurt-based firm participated in the World Expo 2000 in Hanover and the construction of the new headquarters of the European Central Bank (ECB). Speer Jr. also worked as an advisor to the Algerian government and was involved in projects in Saudi Arabia. The company Albert Speer und Partner currently employs about 200 people worldwide.

Albert Speer Jr. was born as the eldest of six children in 1934 in Berlin to a family with a long tradition in the profession of architecture. His father initially worked as Hitler's court architect and, from 1942, due to his managerial skills, as Minister of Armaments Production. During the Nuremberg Trials, he was sentenced to twenty years in prison. He died in 1981.
