Biography
Arthur Payr (Artur Payer) was an Austrian architect active mainly in Northern Bohemia and a professor at the German Technical University in Prague. In the academic year 1925-26, he was also its rector. He studied at the Technical University of Munich from 1898 to 1903. His teachers were Carl Hocheder and Friedrich von Thiersch. After graduation, he worked in Weimar and Innsbruck. From 1917, he began teaching at the German Technical University in Prague. Among his students were, for example, Karl Winter, Fritz Lehmann, and Hermann Wunderlich. He was also a member of the Freie Deutsche Akademie des Städtebaues in Berlin and the Deutsche Gesellschaft der Wissenschaften und Künste für die Tschechoslowakische Republik (German Academy of Sciences and Arts for the Czechoslovak Republic). He was also politically active, and in 1920, he ran in the parliamentary elections for the German Democratic Freedom Party (Deutsch-Demokratische Freiheitspartei).
