Around the former hotel, there is a tourist path, and every time I walked by, I thought about how much I would love to take on the challenge of bringing this interesting and original building back to life. When the owners of the property approached me, we looked for its ideal use together. We did not consider demolition not only out of respect for the undeniable architectural quality of the house but also due to its location and the associated complications with debris removal and the subsequent transportation of new materials. The location of the building was a limit for its future use as well. We sought a solution that would minimize transportation burdens on the area.
At that time, I was already addressing several assignments for premium weekend residences in the mountains. All my clients were undergoing a multi-year permitting process in the national park, dealing with the complexities of construction in a place with a very short building season, and subsequently addressing the maintenance and cleaning of their properties. It occurred to us that apartments with an area of around one hundred square meters and with assured services are something that is missing in the real estate market. As a bonus, we added shared amenities in the form of a 13-meter swimming pool, a professional kitchen for hosting celebrations, and four guest rooms for residents' visitors.
The architectural solution develops the original concept of three dominant residential towers. The facades of the towers are newly glazed, achieving not only greater user comfort in the interior but also lightening the mass of the towers. The division of the towers has been supplemented with hanging balconies. In the spirit of the original design, the towers are clad in metal. The base, from which two above-ground floors visually emerge, is architecturally subdued. Its facade is treated with a concrete coating and supplemented with two protruding loggias that also cover the entrances to the building.
