The object of the former stable is part of the extensive grounds of the castle in Dlouhá Lhota near Příbram. The entire complex is undergoing extensive reconstruction, which in its final phase also included the stable building. This small single-story building with a gabled roof was, as the name indicates, used for housing horses – in part of the ground floor and part of the attic, for storing hay and bedding.

Goal:
A restaurant with its own kitchen, accessible from the castle grounds, but also from the village square, and in the attic hotel-type apartments. We added to this functional brief our own ambition to create an interior that will somewhat emphasize the original use of the building. Not that guests would sleep on hay in the attic, but rather to find such expressive means and materials that would make guests feel like they are in the countryside.

During the reconstruction of the building, it was necessary to demolish part of it due to structural damage, and it was not possible to use cement screeds on the floors, which were in the original concept, due to the load on the ceiling structure, which also risked cracking. It was thus decided to substitute, and the final floor is made of vinyl pieces with a concrete-look decor. The exposed truss elements from the original concept were successfully preserved.

The interior is a combination of built-in and free-standing elements – among the built-in ones are primarily the cladding and tables with drawers made of brushed and stained oak veneer and solid wood, as well as lacquered cabinets in gray tones, which, although based on historical forms, are essentially designed as modern interpretations. The sleeping area is separated from the bathrooms by glass doors with framing. The bed is upholstered in leather and complements the rest of the interior suitably. The seating furniture is from the company TON.

The main goal of the design has been successfully achieved. Guests are accommodated in the attic, and the visible truss elements enhance the atmosphere of the original attic space. The color combination is not too traditional, but suitably expresses the authors' intention of "country living."
