ASSIGNMENTThe investor purchased a duplex apartment with an area of approximately 72 m² and carried out a partial renovation herself.
We were tasked with creating a living space with a variable dining area, a complete renovation of both bathrooms, processing the entire attic space, which is to serve as a playroom and bedroom for a child, and building enough storage space. The apartment is located in the Karlín district of Prague, so the looseness and primarily new spirit of modern times and the changes happening rapidly on the street below permeate up to the attic, most of all brought in by the owner personally. We had to look for a young, timeless, slightly industrial line, lightly spiced up with a bit of playfulness.
REALIZATIONThe apartment had been renovated structurally only a few years ago, so there was no need for any major interventions in the construction. We preserved the original floor plan, including a new oak floor in the lower level. For the walls, we had a typical concrete coating applied. We resolved the variability of the dining area with a dining table on wheels and a foldable bench that is hidden in a wooden wall cladding. Instead of a classic sofa, we chose an upholstered wall, to which sofas are adjacent. We completely demolished both bathrooms, changed the layout and all equipment and fixtures, including toilets from Pendolino. :-)
The floor plan of the upper level for the junior was divided with custom-made furniture, and the floor area was covered with a new wool carpet. We also incorporated newly designed lighting into the project. The new arrangement of furniture also required changes to the electrical wiring, especially in the bathrooms and the supply for air conditioning in the upper level.
We successfully coordinated the entire apartment into a unified line that corresponds to the owners' lifestyle, but especially thanks to the pragmatism and demands of the investor, we advanced the designs aesthetically and functionally in several variations, until she said, "STOP – done."
