The reconstruction of one of the Vinohrady apartments was conceived as a rehabilitation of period generosity, a tribute to the forgotten original builders consisting of adapting the apartment to be spacious, economically reasonable, and yet ambitious housing.
Like most radical transformations, ours begins where it is not visible. We had to address the demands for privacy and sound insulation of the structures. It was necessary to dismantle the floor composition and reinforce the load-bearing beams with brackets, as well as install ceilings or wall up windows leading to the light shaft – the future elevator shaft. Furthermore, it was essential to deal with the inadequate layout – the removal or shifting of continuous partitions and their replacement with steel beams.
The entire interior is dominated by a focus on period aesthetics with natural wood colors and white paneled surfaces combined with muted shades of gray, green, and potato – the natural oak tones.
