We have been dedicated to reconstructions in various degrees and forms for many years in our studio, and it is a very interesting discipline, not only due to the potential results but mainly because of the implementation process. The possible balance of the new and old is often paid for by partial improvisation during execution, and perhaps the surprises you encounter must always be resolved quickly and on the spot. And perhaps it is precisely this kind of adrenaline that excites us the most in the studio…

Our interiors always reflect the future owner, yet they maintain a certain line or let's say a signature, but each interior is distinctive and very personal. This was also true when designing this spacious apartment on the second floor of a residential project in Vinohrady. The floor area of 190 m² allowed us to choose the concept of the layout according to our vision. Thus, a design emerged with the center of the apartment as a black heart, a core, a block that will contain and simultaneously hide everything necessary. It will be a leading dominant line, not only in the floor plan but also in the material concept. Thanks to this, everything else in the layout has become more liberated and provided more space for light and clean lines.

The material concept was the result of layering and stratification. If the apartment has a black core, everything else had to be much more subtle and complex. All the woods and veneers are gently bleached to preserve only the wood grain. To make the apartment pleasant, a lot of material was also used for coverings, which gave it delicacy.

As a scenographer, I like to work with light and layers. Here, we focused on both of these aspects. It was necessary to bring light into the layout, specifically above the kitchen, which had no window and appeared dark during the first visit. Therefore, we designed a large surface light from Barisol above the kitchen area to bring a feeling of daylight here as well.

I perceive completeness as a significant advantage of this interior. I worked incredibly well with the client, who embraced our concept from the beginning, and it was a joy to see the interior take shape. I believe that the neutrality of the wood tones complemented by a clear composition of the black block, which we call the black heart, achieved a harmonious and timeless feel for the apartment.
