Public gathering space, restaurant and café, offices, and exhibition spaces. Commonwealth Place is located on the edge of Lake Burley Griffin, in the heart of the area, which was designated for this purpose by the city’s chief architect Walter Burley Griffin (1876–1937). The project connects the built structures with the landscape elements of this sacred site and offers an open gathering space as well as a place for contemplation.
Enclosed spaces lead visitors directly to the waterfront area, which enlivens the lake's shore. The café and gallery invite the perpetually hurried people to visit and pause at this significant location.
