Design café Kavárna Design was established on Středova street, 100 meters from Svobody Square. Looking into the history of the building's ground floor, the oldest finding from the city archive dates back to before World War II, when there was a fabric store owned by Mr. Lužný and Trlica. The façade of the ground floor was subsequently modified, featuring large glazed display windows and a cornice with frames lined with chrome elements.
The interior design is based on the investor's requirement to create a pleasant and stylish café full of colors, aromas, and flavors, according to the simple motto: "design with coffee." Design is emphasized because it is one of the main professional passions of the investor, aiming to create a calm place amidst the city's hustle and bustle, a multifunctional space and a communication hub where informal meetings of all design and good coffee lovers can take place, as well as business meetings, presentations, and exhibitions, with the possibility to purchase design accessories that are part of the café's interior.
The entrance to the café is from Středova street, approximately in the middle of the layout. There are two main elevated spaces with a height of about 4.5 meters, oriented towards the display windows facing Středova and Veselá streets.
The interior is dominated by green twisters, i.e., stainless steel networks overgrown with climbing plants, which optically modify the elevated spaces and simultaneously divide it into more intimate areas, representing a natural element that positively affects the internal climate.
On one side, the twister in the main space is connected to a leather-upholstered bar, while on the other side, it wraps around the staircase with a walkway that provides access to the meeting room, restrooms, and an office on the upper floor. Seating in this part of the café is arranged with RONDO chairs with leather upholstery and conical-shaped tables, which have space for design exhibits beneath the glass in the middle of the tabletop. This allows visitors to appreciate the beauty of these toys and everyday items up close. Behind the sliding doors with a slatted filling are the café's facilities, while in another part, a small area with a restroom for wheelchair users is hidden.
Around the twister in the adjacent section, a residential landscape is designed. The space features several seating options, from colorful upholstered armchairs to comfortable benches and colorful stools from the BENE PARCS collection. The entire space is divided into boxes using upholstered walls with display cases for individual design pieces. The benches have integrated ports for internet connection and power sources. Glass shelves with mugs in various PANTONE color scales and rails for exhibitions for displaying paintings and photographs are located on the walls.
If we ascend the staircase to the first floor, elevated above the main space, we reach the meeting room via a walkway, which is separated from the café area by a glass wall and a visually vertical SILENTGLISS blind. The meeting room features a HAWORTH COMPOSE table with six HAWORTH VERY chairs. The room is illuminated by a NEXT DNA chandelier.
On the first floor, there are also men's and women's restrooms with an unconventional shared entrance space, which is separated from the hallway by opaque glass with cut-out original pictograms.
The surface of all floors in the café is designed with a maintenance-free low-pile carpet, FORBO FLOTEX. The entire café space is predominantly illuminated by NEXT DROP lighting fixtures, under the overhanging part of the meeting room and in the facilities with NEXT MOLEKULAR_LIGHT fixtures. Above the bar, the NEXT ALIEN fixture dominates.
The café's exterior was restored to its original form during the reconstruction. The view into the large glazed display windows allows visitors to sense what is hidden inside, and each passerby should literally soak up the feeling of fresh, accessible design from this unique historical reconstruction of a modern café. An integral part of the whole concept is also the unique offering and presentation of drinks and desserts.
