<h1>House J1</h1>

The reconstruction of the traditional Jizera Mountain cottage has been driven from the beginning by the effort to reconcile the demands of design, the genius loci of the mountain village, and the contemporary lifestyle of the investor. The figure of the house at the edge of the plot, direct contact with the street, and the largest linden tree in the Jizera Mountains in the yard were defining elements of the design from the outset.

The classic division into a daytime ground floor and attic bedrooms effectively accommodates the fact of the close contact between the house and its surroundings, the dichotomy of social openness and relaxing intimacy. Additions in the spirit of the original appendages of the entrance and the smoking room (whose chimney serves the courtyard seating area by the smoking area) help articulate the outdoor space – the hidden southern terrace behind the kitchen with views of the valley and the yard between the house and the shed with varying quality of the spaces in the garden, seating under the linden tree, and by the smoking area. New dormers, both in shape and placement, seek inspiration in the tradition of local regional architectural forms, framing the views from the attic into the valley and to the crown of the linden tree. The forest on the slope behind the house awaits the placement of a retreat into the rocky ridge.

The treatment of the exterior and interior is in accordance with the builder's taste, modest in a palette ranging from the dark gray roofing of the house's northern gable through naturally graying boards of the facade to the simple beauty of concrete and stone walls and fences.

The house newly opens itself to a dialogue with the surroundings, light, views, the majestic linden tree, and the breathtaking scenery of the area.
