The village of Kamenné Žehrovice is located 5 km southwest of Kladno. In history, it was known for the mining of high-quality sandstone called Žehrovák, from which, for example, Charles Bridge was built. At the site in question, there used to be a small chapel with a bell tower dedicated to the Virgin Mary, probably built during the 18th century. In 1971, it was destroyed by the communist regime, and the adjacent pond was filled with rubble. Thanks to several local residents, the original stone portal was saved and preserved, and it has now been returned to its original location.
In 2005, the civic association Žehrovák decided to restore the demolished chapel. The original building was not surveyed and its appearance is documented only by a historical photograph. Since there is no church in the village, the new, larger chapel is intended to serve local believers for meetings and occasional services, as well as for various cultural and social events (concerts, weddings...).
The new chapel stands in the middle of the grassy part of the village square, approximately on the site of the original chapel, the foundations of which were uncovered only during construction. The building is oriented in the east-west direction. The terrain rises slightly from north to south.
The floor plan takes the shape of a semi-enclosed horseshoe, expanding towards its end. The western gable is concavely curved. The blue shingle roof symbolizes the mantle of the Virgin Mary, and at its peak, it is topped with a gilded abstract crown with twelve stars. Light enters the interior above the presbytery through the crown and a skylight below it. The interior is further illuminated by three side slit windows with expanding niches and a circular window in the façade made of relief tempered glass in yellow-orange tones. Toward the eaves from the ridge, the roof overhang in the gable increases, and at its peak, there is a small bell.
The main entrance is framed by a stone granite portal with a simple profile originating from the original bell tower. The door leaf has a square window with a grid in the shape of the anagram PM. Direct access to the presbytery is allowed by a side entrance. The rounded conclusion and the top of the perimeter wall with a cornice create soft lighting together with the skylight and slit windows. This is also provided in the evening by the lights embedded in the floor along the walls. The floor, altar, and holy water font are made of Žehrovák sandstone. The furnishings are simple, without decorations; next to the altar, there is only a simple cross. Mobile furniture is designed for seating.
