Library in the GardenI love the smell of summer in Třebenice,
sometimes the smoke from the bonfires stings my nose,
but it’s so humid everywhere.
Kids jump into the water near the weir,
sometimes a mosquito bites my neck,
but it's so pleasant.
I read one book after another
sometimes it rains, occasionally it thunders,
but it’s still so lovely.
In a fit of enthusiasm over an unusual assignment, we worked on a study for the Library in the Garden. The library is a two-story, slightly insulated tower with a footprint of 2.25 x 2.25 m, standing just under 5 meters tall. Downstairs you read and warm up, upstairs you sleep and dream. You climb to the upper floor via a ladder, which is part of one of the bookshelves and leads all the way to the roof. There will be a viewing terrace for observing the surrounding landscape or listening to birds and all the creatures that scurry and flutter around. The house has two beautiful windows, fixed and non-opening, glazed permanently. The structure is made of wood with an internal cladding of spruce plywood, which will be insulated between the beams with insulation about 10 cm thick. Under the outer cladding of slightly transparent laminate strips, the pink color of the insulation should shine through. In November 2011, due to a technical malfunction, the library began to burn spontaneously. After six months, we managed to restore it to its original condition, and today the library has been bringing joy to a satisfied owner for the second year.
