The subject area is located above the village of Koněprusy in the Český kras Protected Landscape Area. It is a gently sloping plot situated close to the forest.
The House of Nature of the Český kras was built, including an exhibition, a gazebo, modifications to adjoining outdoor spaces, and an outdoor staircase in front of the entrance to the caves.
The building is positioned at the northern boundary of the plot so that it minimally encroaches into the open space and does not disrupt pedestrian and visual paths. Its architectural form is based on a simple and rational mass division that derives from the adjacent surroundings, operational connections, and the economic requirements of the client. Two masses with a rectangular footprint designated for the exhibition and the administrative building with technical and operational facilities are connected by a central entrance hall oriented both towards the open space and towards the existing path from Koněprus. This functional division is additionally supported by the material design of the facade.
Operationally, the building is divided into three parts. The centrally located entrance hall can accommodate the largest gathering of visitors before entering the exhibition. The hall is followed by exhibit areas with a shop and a hall, luggage and stroller storage, public restrooms, an information kiosk, and a ticket sales area, which can operate from outdoor space in favorable weather without disrupting the entrance to the building. The western wing is dedicated to a two-story exhibition, a shop with regional products and promotional items, and a multipurpose hall. The eastern wing is mainly designated for the administrative building and technical and operational facilities. It also includes an exhibition space for short-term exhibitions and traveling exhibits.
Next to the existing asphalt road leading from the lower parking lots to the open space in front of the House of Nature, a geotrail has been constructed as part of the outdoor exhibition. The entire area around the building, including newly constructed service roads, is made of so-called mineral concrete.
