The highest residential tower in the Netherlands, the New Orleans located on the Southern Headland (Kop van Zuid) and Wilhelminapier in Rotterdam consists of 45 storeys and measures exactly 158.35 metres. The new-build has already been assigned a nickname in keeping with Rotterdam tradition: "Lady on the Wharf", referring to the crown of penthouses at the top and the high glazed base which incorporates a theatre and the LantarenVenster cinema. New Orleans is a design created by Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza, who is one of the most experienced architects in the world. He is renowned for his ability to blend regional culture with international influences and new techniques. Siza is an architect who enjoys experimenting and also loves to play with light.
