Panel apartment Červený vrch

Panel apartment Červený vrch
Address: Červený Vrch, Vokovice, Prague, Czech Republic
Completion:2018
Area:55 m2

The client wanted to renovate an old panel apartment inherited from their parents for their children. We were given free rein and prepared several layout options, from which the client chose the boldest one. In the 1970s panel building, all partitions and the inadequate umakart core were demolished. From a small poorly designed 2+1, we created a 2+kk apartment with a separate dressing room, ideal for two young people. We combined the bathroom and toilet and moved them to where the original kitchen was. This created a beautiful bright bathroom with a large window. We then incorporated the kitchen into the living room.

We wanted to turn the poor reputation of panel apartments to our advantage, and by leveling the ceiling in the living room, we revealed the concrete panel. This helped bring extraordinary texture into the space, from which the selection of remaining materials evolved. We complemented the raw and darker ceiling with gray tones, light birch wood, and natural materials throughout the apartment. The kitchen area is pure white, which makes it visually pop and shine like an inserted cube. The entrance hallway of the apartment was designed as a gray tunnel that opens into this bright kitchen, drawing you in right from the entrance.

In the bedroom, we repeated the addition of an optical cube, but this time a dark one into a bright space, creating a cozy bed with a large amount of storage space. The rest of the room could thus remain airy and bright, just with a work desk and shelves instead of a library. The bedroom can be closed off with sliding wooden doors that, when fully opened, blend in with the surrounding furniture. It is entirely up to you whether the layout will be completely open, allowing you to perceive the apartment as a single unit.

Throughout the interior, diagonally oriented elements intertwine, corresponding with the polygonal playfulness of the hand-painted portrait of Marilyn Monroe, adding originality and uniqueness to the apartment.
