The design concept is based on a detailed analysis of the competition's title. The effort to create a South American pavilion means trying to present animals in the context of their continent and to convey a comprehensive idea of their lives and environment.
When assessing the design of the Amazon pavilion, it is essential not to forget the evident fact that a real encounter with animals, representatives of FAUNA, is not at all simple. The dominant element that characterizes South America/Amazon is FLORA.
This fact is the central theme of the competition design, which creates two basic directions of conveying information that can give us a very realistic idea of South America.
The first direction is entirely focused on the EXPERIENCE of the continent. The experience of traveling through the Amazon is succinctly conveyed through a linear object at the northern edge of the designated area. Individual sections create continuous subspaces, chapters that characterize the habitats of South America from the western to the eastern coast. Changes in cross-sections, the profile of the route, and the light environment, along with the simulation of humidity, temperature, etc., convey a comprehensive experience of South America.
The second direction is aimed at conveying KNOWLEDGE about “Amazonian Fauna.” The method of presentation is based on a similar principle as exhibiting works in contemporary galleries. This means that space and shape are functionally adapted as much as possible so that the visitor can get to know the specific exhibit as best as possible. The proposed circular pavilions offer the opportunity to observe the animal from different perspectives, with barrier-free access. The same comfort is also provided in the winter exhibitions, which additionally include space for lectures, drawing, etc.
