Maříž. Long years of the end of the world. The last farm and at the beginning of the nineties the original pottery workshop of Mr. Boháč (and back then also Mr. Trubáček). At the turn of the millennium, a large tent stood in the garden. It served as a summer shop and customers (both regulars and those who happened to drop by) painted mugs in it…
The turnover was increasing and the assignment was "wooden tent." We had no idea that such a small and more or less temporary structure could disturb the "landscape character." South Bohemian mothers had a different opinion. How they found out is hard to say. For Czechs, a classic story – a hundredfold volume of new construction at the neighbors didn’t disturb anything. However, holding up the construction for several seasons was successful…
It is a shed. It turns to the street with a classic gable that connects to the gables of the farm. Then it "hesitates in shape" and ends in a classic screen (4:3) above the surface of the pond. In the direction of the home it is transparent, towards the neighbors it looks closed – we sense why. The incoming is attracted by its unusual, surprising, somewhat mysterious shape. It is memorable…
The building was conceived from the beginning as a playful wooden, raw (unplaned) structure. However, the result is the "Plecháč." The steel foundation frame and the wooden construction are ultimately completely "overshadowed" by the metal roof/shell for rain. A total of one and a half thousand copper sheets of various sizes were, under the kind craft supervision of Mr. Ceplecha, fired in the ceramic oven. Mr. Boháč, in an insulating fur coat (the oven had to be opened at a temperature of 700°C), tempered the sheets in a basin of water. Subsequently, he shaped them himself with a rubber mallet and fastened them with tens of thousands of rivets with the help of his son Julian. A total of four months of "pleasant, although seemingly endless, yet creative work," he adds today. The roof is his "author’s work"…
Plecháč, a work of art – a provisional building forever…
