Return to the tradition of the First Republic, when the Czech clothing industry was among the best in Europe. A suitable alternative to established women's ready-to-wear fashion: tailored dresses for your body and joy for your soul, personal care and quality, all in one place, at a well-known address. This was the brief, along with unusual requests from the client.
Our task was to fulfill the brief in every respect - not only concerning the interior design itself, but also to provide functional solutions for spaces that are on different height levels.
The interior is not too extensive; to meet all functional requirements, it was necessary to create an additional built-in level. The entrance leads to the ground level, where discussions with clients take place, consultations on designs, measuring, and trying on individual models. Fitting occurs in a spacious fitting room under the built-in level, separated from the salon by a heavy curtain. On the other side of the sales counter is an area where fabrics are stored, and where patterns are transferred to fabrics and actual cutting takes place. Above the cutting area on the built-in level is a tailor's section, and above the fitting room is a small office. Both parts of the level are accessible via two hidden staircases.
From the design perspective, we aimed to find a suitable compromise between traditional and modern, which is well reflected in the use of the picture frame motif. The enlarged picture frame outlines a rack for finished models, and fragments of the frame create a functional decoration on the main wall in the clients' room - the frame is divided into segments - where the canvas would be, there is a mirror, complemented by glass shelves for displaying goods or decorations. Also noteworthy is the upholstered sales counter and the pastel muted color combination on the walls, floor, and furniture.
Our goal was to create a very pleasant color combination that would not compete with individual models but would nicely complement them instead.
In the space designated for fitting, special artificial lighting has been installed, which can simulate any lighting conditions with its color temperature. Ladies in evening dresses can see how they will look at a festive event, and it is also possible to try on suits or dresses that will be worn outdoors during the day or at work in the office.
From the designer's perspective, the most challenging aspect was finding traditional forms and utilizing them in a modern way. We did not want to create a copy of a First Republic tailor's salon, but rather a modern, contemporary interpretation of it.
