R café

R café
Address: Na Florenci 2116, Nové Město, Prague, Czech Republic
Project:2019
Completion:2020

After the Red Pif wine bar was closed (the owner received a notice to vacate the rented premises), a new opportunity arose to utilize the existing equipment and furnishings elsewhere. Although in a different context and with a slightly different focus of the business, in a smaller space after another ceased operation – a café, which also left remnants of equipment and furniture on the premises.
In this context, we established the idea for the interior of the new R-Café based on recycling, or rather on the upcycling of available unused equipment, which we adjusted for the needs of the new space or partially used in a different context.
In a similar spirit, all necessary additional elements were supplemented: scraps from metal sheets, formatted as new "paving" for the floor, supplementary wall paneling made from construction wood and from a demolished metal roof located somewhere beyond Prague, or from discarded glass molds from glass production, which are also used and sold in the business.
The entire process took place relatively quickly from the initial disappointment that Red Pif was ending, through the excitement of the "recycling" happening, to the stress of inventing and sourcing materials, elements, and additional equipment that met the established idea, but were also suitable and available in time.
The effort was ultimately crowned with the owner's decision to serve ERKO beer – a lager made from recycled water at the bar: the circle was closed, everything is functioning again.
