Reconstruction of an apartment for a growing family

Reconstruction of an apartment for a growing family
For their dream home, the clients longed for a modern, clean, and simple interior. In a classic apartment building, we designed a renovation that reflected their desires for an urban lifestyle, but also took into account one significant life change that was soon awaiting them at the hospital…

The architectural study for this project was prepared by architects from the 2MAD studio, Hanka Novotná and Tereza Pecárová. The clients found inspiration in another of our realizations – the reconstruction of a duplex apartment in Scandinavian style. They were inspired not only by the color tonalities of the interior but also by the use of quality materials and design accessories. The clients had few specific requests and, above all, they trusted us. For us, it was an ideal collaboration.

CHANGES IN THE INTERIOR
The main spatial adjustment involved connecting the original kitchen nook with the living room. This connection was achieved by tearing down the dividing wall, leaving only the supporting column. The kitchen island and the adjoining dining seating with a bench now create the central point of the main space. Another change against the original developer's design was the rotation of the seating in the living room. The layout of the room invited placing a corner sofa under the windows, but they did not want that. They chose a simple sofa and placed it in reverse, so it allows a view of both windows.

Material-wise, the apartment is designed very cleanly – wood in natural tones and a color palette in shades of white, black, and gray.
A significant role is played by the solid wood flooring made of traditional parquet, which gains a modern look from the way it is laid, known as the French herringbone.

An interesting element is the wardrobe in the clients' bedroom, which conceals a door leading to the bathroom. The bathroom is connected through a furniture cabinet to the technical room, where the washing machine and dryer are located. The cabinet is accessible from both rooms, simplifying the process of moving laundry between the bathroom and the laundry room.

HOW IS LIVING IN THE NEW APARTMENT?
The clients were thrilled with the result and in conclusion commented with the words:
"It looks amazing. We even wondered a bit if we really live here."
