Reconstruction of the Old Directorate of Vítkovice

Reconstruction of the Old Directorate of Vítkovice
Address: Ruská 24, Ostrava, Czech Republic
Project:2009
Completion:2009-10

The building of the old management is a structure without historical value, but with a number of historical articles reminding of its rich past associated with an even richer history. The object in the shape of the letter F will be gradually renovated; however, the design treated the building as a whole. Important are the surrounding modifications of the object, their connection to the terrain, the overall parking solution, and the connection to the axis of the Vítkovice chateau–gas holder.
The object will predominantly serve for administrative purposes, as well as for the purpose of housing a testing and demonstration center for hydraulic machines. The postal wing is part of the entire area of the Old Directorate of Vítkovice and, as such, is clearly urbanistically defined. The roof section is crowned by a viewing restaurant.
The addressed object is a reconstruction, almost a citation of its original state, equipped with the architecture of its time in modern fittings. This is also respected in the overall new surface solutions, where the facades are left in a classic plaster after insulation. The newly conceived infill of openings is adapted to the overall solution. The original division of windows is preserved.

So far, the first part of the building has been completed. Given the static state and nature of the building as a construction unit, Ytong blocks were used for all newly designed constructions, such as partitions, masonry between the various parts of the building, insulating walls, extensions of the original masonry, or masonry around the windows. This is particularly due to their excellent properties in the area of renovations, such as low weight, ease of processing, simple handling, and ability to thermally insulate.
