Emerging residential development on the outskirts of the village, shaped by twisted ideas about traditional architecture (represented by complicated groupings of masses with the longest possible roof overhangs), has been a challenging urban context for reflection. Therefore, we sought certainty in a clear form of a square floor plan and a compact mass, broken into the intimate part of the garden with a view of the distant landscape. The placement on the plot is traditional and logical – parallel to the street line, with a balanced proportion of the street and intimate part of the garden.
The most prominent feature of the modest southern (street) facade is the intentionally recessed entrance. The house is connected to the private garden space, which directly adjoins the open landscape, in composed views, so that it is not unnecessarily open to the northern windward side, yet still provides a significant visual connection between the exterior and the interior of the house. This approach is also emphasized by the northwestern-oriented loggia.
The house has the character of an urban villa. The clear layout offers flexibility of use, responding to the changing needs of the family over time. The central element is the hall with a staircase, allowing for the rotation of the functional axis of the house. The ground floor is arranged perpendicular to the street. From the entrance, the spaces graduate through the hall with the staircase to the living area with a fireplace and the garden with a view of the landscape. The hall with the staircase is a light-filled central space that provides light to all areas from the very center of the layout through the glazed wall of the eastern facade. The living area is opened to the hall with a glazed wall of sandblasted glass and large three-part sliding doors made from the same material. The upper floor is composed along the central hall corridor with the staircase. Access to all rooms in the intimate part of the house is provided from the longitudinal hallway.
The house forms a structural three-wing layout, made of system brick blocks and a ceramic concrete ceiling. The tent roof consists of wooden trussed rafters with a titanium-zinc sheet covering. The insulation of the primary mass of the house is contact, with a system plaster in dark gray color, and the articulation of the house's mass is characterized by wooden cladding. The expression of the house is based on its shape and material modesty (gray plaster, wooden cladding and windows, titanium-zinc roofing). The interior design highlights the proportions of the space, supported by a combination of light wood and white paint. An important element is the flowering climbing plants, which, apart from completing the facade, bring a changing element that contrasts with the strict geometry and modest color scheme.
