The implementation of public toilets in Hartig Garden lies on the border between reconstruction and new construction. The volume and use have been preserved. The realization was quite demanding, with long discussions about every detail.
The architectural and spatial solution was conceived with the understanding that the sanitary facility will only be operational during the summer period. The material solution was inspired by the latest successful modifications from the First Republic era. Emphasis was also placed on maximizing the use of space as a background during concerts. The entrance areas are designed with washbasins, which directly connect to the communication area in front of the stalls and urinals. The ladies' toilets are supplemented with a hygienic cabin.
The clear logical arrangement is highlighted by a communication axis, covered with glass-concrete blocks. At the end of the glass-concrete ceiling, there is a glass-concrete back wall. Above the glass-concrete ceiling is a lighting and ventilation corridor, roofed with structural glass. A horizontal "skylight" illuminates the internal communication with natural light and also provides secondary light to individual spaces (stalls, urinals, etc.).
Given that the building will not be in operation during the winter months, natural ventilation of all spaces has been designed. Air supply will be provided by shutters next to the entrance doors. From the anterooms, air is drawn into the individual rooms (stalls, etc.), which are open to naturally ventilated chambers leading to the exterior with rainproof shutters on opposite sides. The proposed ventilation represents an elegant, ecological (and economical) solution without energy requirements.
A sad fact is that according to our information, the public toilets have remained closed since their commissioning. If it weren't for our uniquely designed natural ventilation system, they would likely already require further reconstruction. The entire toilet facility, despite not having a single window, is entirely illuminated by natural light and does not require artificial ventilation through air conditioning - thus meeting the requirement for minimal operating costs and being environmentally friendly.
