Family house in Ostrava-Heřmanice
Project:2003
Completion:2006
Area:163 m2
Built Up Area:106 m2
Site Area:1437 m2
Built Up Space:705 m3

Form
We have adapted the building to the character of the surrounding development. A detached family house, a single-story unbasement building, covered with a gable roof, and a separate garage with a flat roof.
The garage is built to the level of the neighboring family houses. The house itself is aligned with the garage, located at the back of the plot. This created line, supported by a uniform surface of the eaves walkways and open spaces in front of the garage and between the garage and the family house (river gravel - Japanese garden), is the main idea of the whole concept.
The line has two functions, creating two distinct approaches and characters. In a parallel direction, it creates a communication space; conversely, in a perpendicular direction, it creates an obstacle, a wall.
The "wall" of the house and garage is positioned 3 meters from the northeastern boundary of the plot, parallel to it. This has shielded the plot from a potential noise source from a garden restaurant. Along the southwest side of the plot, there is a row of trees that we propose to enhance. These two lines define the garden, which communicates with the internal space of the house through glazed surfaces and terraces.

Content
The family house functions as a whole, but it can be divided into 3 separate operationally functional parts. Two separate studio apartments in the northern part (which can serve as rooms with their own sanitary facilities) and a duplex apartment connected by a gallery divided into a social and a quiet area. In all spaces, a perception of depth in the layout is ensured.
I. NP:
The entrance hall with wardrobes and the staircase with storage space divides the I. NP into a part of the studio apartment with sanitary facilities and the main living space with a kitchen open to the attic. The main living space includes a pantry and a toilet. The living spaces are extended into the garden by outdoor terraces.
Attic:
To the north of the staircase is a layout identical studio apartment with sanitary facilities as in I. NP. To the south of the staircase is a dressing room, bathroom, bedroom, and an office located on the gallery.
The garage is a single-space structure.

Structural and Material Solutions of the Building
Garage
It is founded on concrete strips. It is built of exposed concrete KB BLOCKS in a natural grey color, with future plans for it to be covered in climbing greenery. The roof is a steel-wood structure with a slight shed on three sides with a parapet.
The garage doors and entrance doors are steel-wood, uninsulated. The wood will be in a natural light stain. The floor will be made of terrazzo or vitrified tiles. All sheet metal products are made of titanium zinc without further surface treatment.

Family House
It is also founded on concrete strips, with wooden terraces and a hot-dip galvanized steel framework for the porch on concrete footings. The walls and ceiling are made of the POROTHERM system. The roof is a gable wooden frame with an exposed structure visible from the interior, after wooden formwork. The staircase is reinforced concrete monolithic.
The exterior walls are insulated with facade polystyrene, and the roof is made of TI ISOTEC panels.
On the outside, the house is clad with wooden siding placed vertically in a natural light stain. The roofing is made of fiber-cement corrugated sheets in a grey shade. All sheet metal products are made of titanium zinc without further surface treatment. The shelter above the entrance is made of hot-dip galvanized steel brackets and polycarbonate sheets. The external chimney for the fireplace is insulated and double-walled made of brushed stainless steel. The plinth is finished with cement plaster in grey color.
Windows and doors are wooden made of euro-beams with clear insulating glass. The glazing of the opening on the southeast side is frameless. The roof windows are wooden - VELUX.
The internal walls and ceilings will be plastered with lime-cement plaster, the color will be addressed in the next stage of the project documentation. In bathrooms and toilets, the walls will be covered with ceramic tiles. The roof structure will be visible from the interior and will be treated with a natural stain.
The floor in I. NP will be wooden floating. In the attic, a layer of surface covering is proposed. The staircase will be finished with wood. In the entrance hall, bathrooms, toilets, pantry, and storage space under the stairs, the floor will be made of ceramic tiles.
The internal doors, including frames, will be wooden.
