The house in Zbraslav "grows towards the sun".
Its shape, orientation of the inner spaces, their proportions and connections are derived from the desire to bring as much light and sunshine into the house as possible, given the conditions of a small plot within the existing development, additionally shaded on the southern edge by neighboring buildings.
In winter, the sun shines only weakly on the plot, for a moment before sunset. However, through the elevated space of the living room with dining area and kitchen, a strip of sunlight still manages to pass during lunchtime, only to return for dinner after hiding behind the shield of the opposite barn. As spring begins, it stops hiding and lasts until late autumn.
The higher the house rises, the more it opens up to the sun. In the rooms on the upper floor, its inhabitants can rise with the morning sun or fall asleep with the evening sun.
The third floor, set back to the northern edge of the house, provides ample light and sun all year round, as does the adjoining terrace. Open views of the nearby Hussite church, the Belvedere, the last hill of Brdy Havlín, and the Celtic settlement of Závist across the Vltava river balance the enclosed garden.
