I will not express my personal feelings about the structure. I just want to point out that in the world of engineers, there is not just Arup. There are more enthusiastic builders who lack the word IMPOSSIBLE in their vocabulary. I have one message for them: love each other, multiply, and send a few specimens to us in Bohemia.
"Snow-Land Agrarian Culture Center" is the main attraction of the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2003, one of the largest outdoor art exhibitions in the world. This year's edition features works from Australian Janet Laurence to Spanish Josep Maria Martin. The chosen theme focuses on the revitalization of the region connected with changes in the lifestyle and social values of traditional towns and villages caused by the development of IT technologies. The design was commissioned to the Dutch MVRDV, riding the wave of globalization and consumerism. The structure is subordinate to the architectural program and becomes its symbol. The ground floor lacks any columns, and the superstructure is supported exclusively by communication corridors (partially open to the elements); the roof is walkable and remains accessible to the public even during the snow-heavy winter months. Additional features of the building include a café, gift shop, classrooms, and exhibition spaces. In the form, I feel something of Hejduk.
