Biography
The MVRDV studio was founded in Rotterdam in 1991 by Winy Maas, Jacob van Rijs, and Nathalie de Vries (graduates of TU Delft). The work of the studio is not strictly defined and represents projects ranging from large-scale designs to small architecture, often communicating diversely with the environment. In addition to designing and realizing buildings, the studio also engages in urbanism, interior design, and furniture design.
MVRDV brings knowledge and experience through its projects that encompass a range of architectural disciplines. Their designs lack traditional boundaries between different architectural types - whether it is urban planning or interior design, the fundamental principles are already established by the environment and context from the outset.
MVRDV approaches each assignment with an open mind and without prejudice. The conditions of the brief, various requirements, different constraints, and complicated situations are thoroughly studied and absorbed until a solution is found. Wishes, norms, and conditions are translated into a form-organized diagram. The design process at MVRDV is truly sophisticated.
