Narrow access and the plot, both on Úzká street. How to design the house so that we do not lose the views of the city and that the disproportion of the land becomes an advantage? The plot is located on a hill above the city, at the edge of the built-up area of the municipality. The intention – a modern house, clear layout, connection with the surroundings, plenty of light inside, compact mass, external cladding of wood, inside concrete, glass, wood.
The clearly cut longitudinal and wooden mass of the house is placed parallel along the access, unusually narrow communication. On the sides, there is a lightweight steel-wooden structure of the shelter, and on the other side a single-story residential mass, covered by a concrete slab resting against a brick wall. All three parts form a whole, a functional unit. The entrance to the house is designed with a generous steel-wooden structure, simultaneously serving to cover cars, allowing a person to step out of the house at any time while being protected from rain, wind, sun, or snow.
The layout is designed without corridors. There is always something interconnected; you are always part of something. You are also always part of the external space. You perceive changes in the weather intensely. The linear composition of the house is supported by a protruding wooden terrace along the longitudinal axis, shaded by tarpaulin in the summer, and two, in the future, massive trees, in front of both gables. Part of the longitudinal composition is also an edge wall made of reclaimed bricks, against which the concrete ceiling slab leans. The wall, extending beyond its footprint on both sides, intentionally creates semi-enclosed intimate living spaces. Two levels of the first floor respond to the cross-slope terrain, which outside the house is leveled with concrete blocks and stone walls. In the longitudinal layout, the raw concrete staircase is placed transversely. The living area with a fireplace is completely glazed on both sides so that the views allow perceiving the longitudinal dimension of the plot. The kitchen with the dining table in one space is directly connected to both the living area and the large terrace.
On the second floor, there are two bedrooms in the edge positions. Between them, a communal space is arranged with a study and then a bathroom. Openings in the walls are thoughtfully designed with an emphasis on views. The shallow gable roof is exposed from the inside and fitted underneath with plywood lining, covered from above with EPDM rubber. The windows, including fixed frameless ones, are brought out to the façade line using purenit frames. The floors are covered with oak, lightly bleached boards, while the bathrooms have poured polyurethane floors in shades of white. The ceilings of the first floor are not plastered; the raw concrete is exposed with openings for recessed light fixtures.
