In a beautiful apartment building on a side street near the main historical square, there is a new café space. It features a lovely layout of two large rooms connected by a central passage. The brief was to design a distinctive café that would be open to both younger and older generations.
In the design, we drew upon the typology of the place and the structures that the original but very dilapidated building offered us (fabions, original heating, fragments of bricks and structures...) and we tried to restore these details as much as possible, thus returning the place to its original character. The new elements clearly complement this "historicism" and do not attempt to imitate it; they are, on the contrary, a contrast (white bar counter, chairs, tables...). We wanted the café to engage in a maximum dialogue with the gentle symbiosis of Riegrova Street, on which it is located. The wide boulevard, pedestrian zone, and plenty of light all led us to make maximum window openings. The central part will completely open in the summer thanks to folding doors, thus the café will become part of the street space in a gentle, unobtrusive manner.
In the interior, the most pronounced element is undoubtedly the black and white tiles, which are used both in the café itself and in the background. Their hard design was deliberately chosen primarily to attract the attention of passersby; anyone walking by will first see the dark frames and these graphically striking cladding elements, and only when they reach the front of the café will they discover the charm of the light space.
All new elements were designed and implemented with local companies.
