The competition for this bridge was held in 2004 and was announced for a pedestrian footbridge in a more economical width of the roadway. In the competition, we ranked second behind the design of a lightweight steel bridge suspended on cables. The concept of the winning design was not approved by environmental authorities, and our design was selected for realization with a new requirement from the investor for the possibility of permanent one-way traffic from the center and the relocation of water and gas pipelines.
From the first concept, we decorated the bridge with sculptures so that passersby could linger in this place, sit down, and observe the river. The Bečva River is quite friendly at this point; there are often boats, and it has a pleasant atmosphere. It took a long time for our work and the comments and requests from the city and the public in Přerov to shape the construction of the bridge into its current form. The bridge still has many admirers, but unfortunately, there are also negative responses to its new appearance, often from proponents of constructing a replica of the previous concrete bridge.
The course of work on the project and during its actual realization was, as we are convinced, normal. The opinion on its width was sought for quite some time, and we believe that it all served the purpose well. All considerations and changes were in good faith — there were never any malicious intentions, there was always a good atmosphere, and the entire long process was wisely led by the investor of the project. During this time, the work expanded to include the solution of the entire surroundings of the bridge, including addressing traffic in the center of the old town. We would gladly experience a similar project again.
