The clients purchased an apartment in a development project west of Prague. When buying the property, they were satisfied with the standard offered by the developer. Over six years, they realized that blending into the crowd was not their style and they needed to give their home a distinctive look. The apartment is of a suitable size, the rooms are spacious, it is in a good location, and has a beautiful view of the garden. However, the layout of the apartment is a 2+kk, which is not entirely optimal for a family of four.
The living space with the kitchen mainly served as a playroom for the children. The remaining room provided a refuge only at night and was not much used during the day. Neither the parents nor the children had their own corner to spend time alone. This required a change. The goal was to create a fully functional space for the children and a semi-private bedroom for the adults, as well as to give style to the bathroom and toilet, and to organize and maximize storage space in the pantry and entrance hallway.
The atypical built-in unit at the entrance to the apartment includes storage spaces for most of the clothing and footwear. It features an upholstered bench for more comfortable shoe-wearing and placing belongings. In the adjacent pantry, all cleaning supplies and laundry products fit neatly on shelves. The washing machine and dryer are also located here.
A major transformation took place in the sanitary facilities. Unsightly tiles and flooring were replaced with water-resistant plaster. Shelves made of Staron material were added around the sink, and a cabinet with a mirror was hung on the wall for storing hygiene products and cosmetics. The unsightly installation door on the toilet was replaced, and access to the shaft became discreet.
The children's room is a boy's paradise. Each boy has his own desk and plenty of storage space where they can display their favorite toys and books. All the furniture is placed around the perimeter of the room, leaving space in the middle for play, which is very important.
In the living area, a partial division was created using a multi-purpose bookshelf. The lower section has closed storage spaces. The upper part consists of closed storage boxes that decrease in size as they move away from the wall, leading to shelves protruding into the space. This gives the bookshelf a light appearance and does not block the flow of natural light into the rest of the room. Some of the storage spaces are accessible from the sofa, others from the side of the bed. There is room for documents, correspondence, and paperwork, blankets, throws, and small clothing.
The reconstruction also included the replacement of floors, trimming, and doors. The wooden floor replaced the laminate, and its honey tone gives the interior a warm hue. The white baseboards emphasize the elegance of the oak floor and match the colors of the doors and new furniture. Sliding doors with frosted glass were installed in the living area. The remaining swing doors are painted and their unobtrusiveness does not disrupt the flow of the space.
