Green Apartment

Green Apartment
Completion:2024
Area:78 m2

At the beginning, there was an apartment in a panel building with an original umakart core, a kitchen unit in the hallway, and three rooms. The task was to adapt the layout and design for the comfortable and practical use of a six-member family, with an emphasis on a timeless appearance and aesthetics. A somewhat unconventional aspect of the brief was that it would not be a permanent residence. The family would use it as a summer apartment in the city, to which they have a connection and enjoy going on trips in the surrounding area. A pleasant circumstance is that the owners are interested in architecture and visual arts, and from the beginning, consideration was given to the placement of sculptures and paintings.

A crucial element of the concept is the decision to place the main living area towards the courtyard and connect it with the kitchenette. For uncomplicated connection to the riser, the sanitary core was also relocated. A new room is created in the central part behind the bathroom. It is a passageway and serves as a study with occasional sleeping possibilities.

The central part – the sanitary core and kitchen – is wrapped in a soft rounded shape with green cladding. Doors and cabinets for shoes, the washing machine, or food are also incorporated into it. The sofa in the study is also included. The second key material is dark oak veneer. The entrance to the bedroom is hidden within the cladding, and from the bedroom side, there is a view of a clean arrangement of wardrobes, where the doors are not noticeable. It is a kind of homage to Adolf Loos. The floor is light rubber, forming a neutral background for the other interior elements.

All upholstered parts are covered in green fabric, including the cushions.

The small room for the occasional overnight stay of the four siblings was designed with the requirement to create at least partially private nooks. The bunk beds are partially separated by partitions featuring the recurring green color and circular openings. Each bed has its own shelving space. At the same time, these places are sheltered by a bookshelf and a wardrobe to create intimate resting spots.

According to the request, a built-in sauna is also part of the bathroom. The materials and colors used elsewhere in the apartment are repeated in the bathroom on a neutral base of large-format ceramic tiles.
