Biography
Ferdinand Konček is a Slovak architect who ranks among the prominent architects of the 20th century. His work is characterized by elegant and generous buildings.
He completed his secondary education in Bratislava. He commenced his university studies without entrance examinations. He began studying in the autumn of 1948 at the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Civil Engineering. The teaching staff was composed of individuals with proven results in the realization of architectural works. For example, Professor Emil Belluš, Vladimír Karfík, Jan E. Koula, Karel Hannauer, Emanuel Hruška, Ján Štefanec, Jozef Chrobák, Alfred Piffl, Eugen Kramár. He graduated in 1952.
In 1953, he enrolled in a three-year program at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague under Professor Jaroslav Fragner. During his studies, he participated in various competitions. His stay in Prague was of great significance for him. He learned to understand modern architecture here.
His studies in Prague and work on competition designs allowed him to team up with I. Škoček and Ľ. Titl, who also studied there. After returning from Prague, they worked together in Bratislava from 1957 at Stavoprojekt and later also at the Association of Project Studios of the Union of Slovak Architects, as a creative trio until 1990.
