Biography
Josef Arnold was a German builder and stonemason active in Vienna and Brno. He studied at the Polytechnic and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he subsequently worked at the Royal Building Inspection. Later, he worked in Regensburg and Vienna (with architect Heinrich Ferstel). In 1851, he settled in Brno and established a construction company there. In addition to his own designs, his company also carried out structures for other architects (e.g., German Technical School in Brno, German Gymnasium in Brno, City Theatre, Czech Teachers' Institute,...).
He was a co-author of one of the designs for the concept of Brno's ring road at the sites of the demolished city walls. In 1884, he was awarded the Order of Franz Joseph and the Knight's Cross of the Order of St. Gregory.
