Liberec - Israeli investors behind the company Intex plan to demolish most of the factory buildings in the former Bytex complex in the Liberec district of Vratislavice. The demolished buildings will be replaced by new production and storage halls. This is reported in today's edition of Mladá fronta Dnes for the Liberec region. "We examined the possibilities for using the entire site. Production and storage turned out to be the best option," said Kateřina Deličová from Intex, which ceased carpet production on the site at the beginning of the millennium. There was also consideration of a shopping center or conversion to residential housing, but it did not make economic sense. The company has significantly advanced preparations for the project and intends to apply for a zoning permit in the coming weeks, the newspaper reported. Only the water tower and the administrative building, which have historical value, will remain from the old site, which spans ten hectares and has its own rail siding. Construction will not begin until the company finds tenants for the new spaces. The tradition of carpet manufacturing in Vratislavice began in the mid-19th century. During socialism, for example, Bytex supplied several countries of the Comecon, especially with the well-known kovral carpets, the newspaper recalls. A Belgian company, Associated Weavers, operates on the site, employing 80 people in the final carpet finishing. It purchased the production spaces from Intex. For several years, it produced carpet mats there, but has relocated that production elsewhere.
