Telč (Jihlava region) - The University Centre of Masaryk University in Telč, in the Jihlava region, is preparing to open after extensive reconstruction. The complete renovation of the former Jesuit college, with costs around 150 million crowns, was significantly supported by so-called Norwegian funds. In terms of financial volume, it is the largest project supported by these funds in the Czech Republic. This was announced to journalists today by Mayor Roman Fabeš (Independent Association and SNK ED). Masaryk University has gained a modernly equipped conference center through the renovation of the building in the city’s heritage zone, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It includes a university library, an information center, a student café, and accommodation facilities with more than 70 beds and amenities. “In addition to educational activities, a Central European Center for Cultural Heritage will operate in the building,” Fabeš informed. Construction work began in the summer of 2009. The university center will be ceremonially opened on April 11. The university center in Telč has been serving students since 2002 when the Faculty of Arts began teaching art history with a focus on heritage conservation and protection of cultural heritage. Two years later, the Faculty of Economics and Administration joined, opening combined bachelor’s degree programs in Telč focusing on economics, public administration, regional development, tourism, banking, and management. At the same time as these programs, lifelong learning programs are also available in Telč.
