Ústí nad Labem - Construction of a multifunctional building named Palác Zdar has begun in the central Mírové náměstí in Ústí. Jakub Zavoral from AZ Sanace, the investor, laid the foundation stone today for a building that will include services, shops, and apartments. The estimated cost for the construction of five above-ground and three underground floors is approximately 300 million crowns. "We expect to open in the autumn of 2007," Zavoral told ČTK. The construction may be delayed by an archaeological survey. "However, we hope to meet the deadline," Zavoral added. The building will feature a parking lot, supermarket, boutiques, restaurants, and luxury apartments. According to Zavoral, the construction of the underground floors, which will have 175 parking spaces, is the most costly part of the project. The complex, which will be built on the site where there used to be a courthouse and the Zdar restaurant, will also house Česká pošta. There will be no planned multiplex cinema in the building. "We couldn’t agree on the terms of operation; the cinema will be replaced by a restaurant, offices, and shops," Zavoral stated. Additionally, a multiplex cinema is planned to be part of a development that AM Development is preparing to build near Mírové náměstí. The city sold the investor a plot of land of approximately half a hectare for 2100 crowns per square meter. "Residents living in the center will certainly welcome the fact that there will be a supermarket, which is currently missing in the city center," said Deputy Mayor Jan Kubata.
