Biography
Rafael Viñoly Beceiro came from a Uruguayan family of a film director and a mathematics teacher. He graduated in architecture from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina in 1968, but four years earlier he co-founded the architectural studio "Estudio de Arquitectura Manteola-Petchersky-Sánchez Gómez-Santos-Solsona-Viñoly" with five other partners, which almost immediately became the largest South American firm winning significant contracts. In 1978 he moved to the USA, where he briefly served as a visiting lecturer at Harvard University. Since 1979, he has been permanently based in New York, where in 1983 he established his independent firm Rafael Viñoly Architects PC, with a presence worldwide.
