Biography
Doc. Ing. arch. Zdenka Marie Nováková, CSc. graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at ČVUT in Prague under Professor Ing. arch. František Cubr in the year 1963.
1963-66 she worked in K. Prager's studio at the Regional Planning Institute in Prague.
1966 she was accepted as an assistant to Prof. F. Cubr at the Faculty of Architecture, ČVUT in Prague through a competition.
In 1968 she transferred to the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague with him and collaborated with him for a long time in both teaching and creative work.
She worked at the AVU until 1990. In 1980 she habilitated here as an associate professor with her theoretical work "The Artistic Work in Contemporary Environmental Creation". She later returned to the issue of artistic aspects in architectural creation in her dissertation "Artistic Synthesis in Contemporary Czech Interior Creation", submitted and defended at the Faculty of Architecture, ČVUT (1990-1994).
In the years 1991-1996 she served as the head of the Department of Architecture at the Private School of Artistic Design in Prague.
Since 1997 she has continued her teaching work as an associate professor at the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, ČVUT in Prague.
She has held numerous professional positions in the field of architecture and art. She represented the Czech Republic at international architects' symposia (in Leipzig in 1983, in Havana in 1988, and in Prague in 1989). She currently collaborates with the Livie and Václav Klaus Foundation.
She is a member of the Czech Chamber of Architects, the Architects' Association, the Association of Interior Architects, and the Union of Visual Artists. She is also a member of the Club for Old Prague. She has participated in numerous prestigious exhibitions within the AVU, SČA, ČFVU, ČKA, AIA collectives.

She is the author of several significant realized architectural designs, among which the interior design of the relocated Gothic church in Most with a permanent exhibition of old art received two international recognitions and a domestic award from the Minister of Culture of Czechoslovakia.
She is represented in the International Archive of Women Architects in Virginia, U.S.A., in the architecture archive of the National Gallery in Prague, in the lexicon Architecture and Visual Arts by E.A. Seemann in Leipzig, in the publications Who is Who - Architecture (2000, 2003), in the Dictionary of Czech and Slovak Visual Artists 1950-2000, and in professional literature.
In addition to architectural creation, she is also engaged in painting, and her painting work is represented in major galleries and collections in the Czech and Slovak Republics as well as abroad.
For her artistic activity, she was awarded the Masaryk Academy of Arts Prize in 2002 and the European Franz Kafka Medal in the same year.
