In a newly built apartment building in Karlín on the banks of the Vltava -
Kay River Lofts, by architect
Ivan Kroupa, we were asked by the client to create the interior of a comfortable, airy apartment without the need for too much division.
The space itself is defined by large sliding windows on both sides of the long layout and is terminated on both sides by generous, comfortable terraces that emphasize the airiness of the interior we aimed for.
The space is uncomplicatedly divided into day and night zones. However, the central connecting area with bathrooms and a technical room is somewhat long, so we came up with the idea of an inserted "wooden tunnel" that hides all the necessary functions, including numerous storage spaces. The hallway is long and lacks natural light, but with suitable cabinet placement, rhythmization, and added lighting, we achieved the opposite feeling - a shortening and simultaneously a clear separation of the day and night areas.
The wooden "tunnel" thus became a kind of motto - the heart, or engine of the otherwise austere and functional interior.
The materials used, such as wood, metal, and concrete, respect and subtly relate to the character of the building.
