The apartment is located on the second floor of a Art Nouveau building in Prague 2. Originally, the entire floor was dedicated to one apartment occupied by the owner of the Hlavatý paper factory. During the previous regime, the space was divided into two apartments, including a balcony. The reconstruction proposal maintains the existing division of spaces while also addressing the investor's requirement for possible expansion of the apartment in the future, so that the entire balcony can again be part of one apartment.
The intention was to design an attractive rental apartment with respect for the original characteristic elements of the interior. The basis for the new adjustments was the clearing of the layout and the owner's requirement for minimal interventions in the load-bearing structures. By removing the partition between the hall and the kitchen, a beautiful space was opened for a new kitchen with a dining area, which is oriented towards the courtyard. The kitchen is connected to the hall by a portal that responds to the originally preserved paneled doors leading to the living room. The portal element connects the living room with the dining area and creates a view in two cardinal directions. Various lighting scenes offer a new experience of the space and bring lightness and brightness to the interior. From the living room, doors lead to two rooms. In one room, the original interior element – a fireplace – is preserved. The bathroom is located in a furniture block with wardrobes and kitchen cabinets, which runs between the hall and the dining area. This furniture block is the only part of the interior of the rented apartment. The rest of the furnishings is left to the tenant to customize the space according to their own taste.
Refurbished original castle floorboards contrast with the minimalist epoxy screed. This is used in the dining area and merges into the bathroom and WC. The dining area is designed in light gray tones. In the bathroom and WC, it completes the monochromatic color scheme, dominated by a dark turquoise color that evokes distant horizons and enhances the contrast and character of the apartment.
