S: When you say Old Town and Martin Fenin, what is the first thing that comes to your mind?
V: That was sometime at the beginning of 2013 - one of our early projects at a great address with a young investor and a footballer in one person.

S: Do you remember how that collaboration actually started?

V: Martin then turned to our studio to see if we could help him find an apartment in the center of Prague, where he would occasionally return. We managed to find a great 3+1 apartment with an area of about 80m² at a very attractive address that offered rich social activities both day and night.

S: Can you still recall what impressed you most about that apartment?

V: Beneath the "wear and tear" was the original beauty and historical quality of the apartment, with large box windows, high ceilings, and a balcony overlooking the courtyard, which once belonged to the maid's kitchen.

S: What was Martin's brief when he started collaborating with us on the study?

Martin was 27 at the time, without obligations. The apartment was to serve as a retreat for occasional overnight stays in Prague, but he also wanted to occasionally host smaller social events for friends. Therefore, we divided the apartment into two functional zones. We structurally enlarged the living or rather social room to the maximum. In the center of this zone stands a large dining table with an integrated cooking center and a spacious seating area to accommodate a larger number of guests.

S: How is the second zone of the apartment organized?

V: The intimate part of the bedroom and private bathroom was hidden behind a replica of historical doors (leading from the hallway to the back section of the apartment). A suitably placed, spacious "walk-in robe" serves as a sound filter between the day and night zones. In the calmest part of the apartment, behind a wall of frosted glass, lies a generous bathroom with a shower and a freestanding tub. We removed the originally small and intricate room to give the private men's bathroom adequate space, but also natural light with access to the balcony.

V: We solved the operation of the apartment elegantly. But do you remember how we searched for the color and material concept of the design?
S: Martin didn't have explicit material or design preferences and trusted our taste. The apartment was to feel timeless, respecting the original historical elements. Therefore, there is a predominance of a muted combination of stained wood in the tone of the floor and white lacquered elements. We coordinated the accessories in gray and black. This way, artistic works on the walls or other furnishings that Martin can use to cozy up his new apartment will stand out even more.
