On the border of old and new Ďáblice, on the way from the city, stands an older building known as Akcíz, originally a customs house for the collection of food tax, later converted into a house with municipal rental apartments. Through the active efforts of the local government, a new building was added to the old apartment block. A connected whole has emerged, a new neighborhood. The new building contains 14 housing units providing minimal yet reasonably dignified living conditions for tenants in various life situations.
The new house responds to the subtle modeling of the original terrain in an effort to also incorporate its immediate surroundings into the living spaces. The ground floor units thus have access to a smaller eastern terrace that can be well used for individual gardens. All units are oriented with entrances and bathrooms facing the courtyard, and living rooms to the southeast, overlooking the open suburban landscape. The balcony at the boundary between the courtyard and the apartments plays a role in the relationship between the new house, the courtyard, and the original building. The apartments on the ground floor are accessible directly from the lowered level of the terrain, while those on the upper floor come from the balcony. Three duplex units on the upper floor have access to a living roof terrace. Shared facilities include a bike storage room on the ground floor, a boiler room on the upper floor, and basement storage boxes on both levels.
The main part of the house is constructed with non-visible CLT panels and wooden beam ceilings. The facade is externally covered with a contact thermal insulation system with plaster, while the balcony features cladding made of cement-bonded particle boards. The structurally independent reinforced concrete balcony is supported by steel columns and the mass of basement storage units made of concrete blocks. Efficient management of rainwater is aided by extensive green roofs and the overall concept of unpaved and paved surfaces within the site.
